What could feel more festive than sipping a mulled wine in the winter chill, whilst browsing snow topped wooden chalets full of gorgeous gifts and delicious treats? A Christmas market is a fantastic way to kick off your shopping list and the UK has some really great ones. Vogue magazine this week published their top UK Christmas markets to visit, with Bath at the top of the list – read the article here . Its no great surprise – to the backdrop of the most incredible Georgian buildings and statuesque Abbey, the award winning market in Bath boasts over 170 stalls of food, drink, decorations and gifts.
Wandering the atmospheric streets (all in the central shopping district), you can guarantee you will find something unique for that special someone or the perfect gift for the dreaded Secret Santa. The huge variety of stalls and produce is spectacular and ranges from the cute to the quirky, the traditional to the trendy and of course, plenty of Christmas-themed items too.
When shopper’s elbow sets in, park the bags and rest those tired feet at the scandi-themed ski lodges and revive the spirits with hot drinks, local ales or a light snack. You could be in the Alps sitting on the furs and snuggling under checked blankets.
Jewellery and Gin, ornaments and art, lanterns and legwarmers… if you can think of a gift, its probably here. The candy and treats will keep the kids (young & old) on side whilst you tick off that list and look forward to finding a wonderful variety of handmade and locally sourced gifts.
Bath Christmas market has a magical festive atmosphere (possibly due to the photogenic, history-steeped location) and the hours will fly by so make sure you leave plenty time to see it all. The rest of the city is worth a look too…If you have reluctant shoppers in your party, there are so many other things to see and do. Check out The Bath Christmas Market website, its packed with information about the stalls and planning your visit.
Open from 10am its well located for incredible cafes and bars that Bath has to offer…my advice would be to start with a delicious local breakfast to fuel the energy levels. That said, the market looks even prettier at night when the lights are on and the streets and squares come to life so don’t end your visit early – maybe stay over? Grab the family or a friend and make your season start in style!
