Decorations – it wouldn’t be Christmas without them. They’re as traditional as mince pies, gifts under the tree (and a tricky conversation with at least one relative about who is supposed-to-be-hosting and how long they’re staying etc but lets gloss over that part…) Aside from the delicious feasting and gathering together, my favourite part has to be the decorating at home and I am more than happy to put as much effort into that as the rest of it.
This year I am going a little luxe. I’ve done a kitsch coloured-Christmas, had a total white-out and last year ‘we’ did a more modern Scandi feel and so its time for a change. (See my previous post for ideas) Initially I was thinking monochrome but the objections and protests from the fam were too vocal so have switched to an art-deco inspired metallic and dark vision. Things that we will want to keep up way into the new year (think THAT party at the end of The Great Gatsby…. oh yes, bar carts and cocktail shakers and metallic paper fans, the works).
This week I was lucky enough to be invited to the Homesense UK bloggers Christmas party at the funky Bar Behind The Bookcase in Birmingham…. what an inspiration. It was great to meet other bloggers from all over the UK and the festive homewares to view were absolutely perfect for my interiors theme this year. The venue (also with uber decorations) had a host of great ideas for trying at home…. check out the feathered butterflies….and hello, who doesnt love a neon?
Whether you’re planning a luxurious feel for your home this year, going for a more traditional vibe or maybe a simple Scandi setting, there was something for everyone’s taste (and budget) at the party. Whilst I am not ready to throw the Christmas lever in November, I do think its worth thinking about what you’ve got and what needs replacing this year. Lights? Decorations? New glasses? Amazing snow-globes with reindeer…..? Yep, me too.
There was a gorgeous selection of seasonal decorations to view, with opulent ornaments, unique baubles, candelabra and cake stands for your festive treats and loads more. In store (If you’ve never been to a Homesense, you should – up to 60% off branded and quality interiors ) there is glorious glassware, presents for family and friends and delicious gourmet food & drink gifts for people you may be visiting. I popped in this week for some gifts for my girlfriends far away so I can make the post dates this year… There may have been a tiny bit of self-gifting, Orla Kiely towels and an amazing paper tassel garland that will be staying up all year long.
There is also loads of stunning stationery & wrapping (Love the black and metallic stripes and chevrons… ) to get you done and dusted in style and on time…which I totally plan to do this year…. ( I really, definitely mean it girls …)
Whilst clearly I get totally over-excited by the trimming the trees and decking the halls, I must confess to some festive control-freakery over what goes where and in which colour….I cant help it. When it comes to taking it all down a however, and packing it away carefully in the ever growing set of storage boxes, everyone is welcome to help with that ….hey, hang on, where has everybody gone?
