When looking for some interiors refreshment for our homes, nothing scratches that itch like a spot of online shopping. I have lost hours of my life flitting through Pinterest like a kid in Disneyland, and then laid face down and crestfallen (am only slightly joking) when I find the object of my desires is actually 3 seasons past and no longer available.
Change of tack required. I now hit up my favourite online sites first when I am searching for a perfect print, quirky curio or statement light. Less disappointment and often things I didn’t even know i needed . Result. Gorgeous gifts, statement stationery and fresh-out-the-box finds are at the touch of a button and (if you know where to look) innovative pieces from local makers and suppliers which come with a free fuzzy-glow from supporting independent businesses and Fair Trade suppliers.
We all know Graham & Green, Rockett St George, Amara, Cox & Cox, MiaFleur et al are total winners on the interiors (virtual) high street and I am not averse to a spot of Abigail Aherne if I am feeling flush, but there are some total gems you may have overlooked thus far in the giant interiors interweb. Their offerings range from the eco to the artisan but are all utterly swoonworthy so I’ll jump straight in :
Obviously not online, HEMA was first open in 1926 ! Fast forward 90 years and the brand which believes in making daily life easier and more fun is online and recently opened its 6th store in the UK (locations on their website). Everything sold in is designed at the headquarters in Amsterdam and their typical style is modern, practical & user friendly. Oh and this recommendation is really budget-friendly too.
I love Flora’s edit…it just rocks… Her online lifestyle boutique doesn’t just fulfil interiors needs either, festoon lights, stationery, gifts and partyware for cool-kids and lovely prints to adorn your walls. Based in Cheltenham but shipping worldwide, you’ll find some scandi-cool kit and more individual finds from heaps of smaller suppliers who are big on design. Lose several hours just soaking up the goodness on offer here and feel the glow of knowing you’ve just nailed birthday, occasion and Christmas gifting for the foreseeable…(and oooh maybe one or two bits for yourself obvs).
And who wouldn’t want one of these adorning the walls….
Here’s a good one. For bespoke pictures and oil paintings ( a great wedding gift or to mark a special birthday or anniversary) just contact the lovely Kelly at who I met recently. Her art is not her only talent – check out the incredible textiles she has selected and includes on the site too. I cant get enough of the herringbone throws and those colours are divine !
With some lovely gifts for kids and covetable decor for their space in your home, the choice isnt overwhelming (which is a good thing) and definitely worth a peruse. I am going to purchase this beauty, just not sure its going to make it into my daughter’s room….
Another fave (and a local shout out) goes to the brother and sister team at Decorators Notebook – the Somerset based online homeware and accessories mecca. Their passion for home decor comes from years working for interiors magazines and a desire to share interesting products that combine quality natural materials with thoughtful design, skilled craftsmanship and interesting origins.
What awaits you is more than a beautiful selection of cushions, throws, lighting, tableware, storage pieces and candles etc (though frankly thats good enough !) Scouring the pages you can tell its an altogether more thought-about and inspiring offering. They don’t think anyone should have to choose between beauty and efficiency, so they give you the best of both worlds: a stylish webshop with gorgeous photography ..win win and many are fair trade items…and win again.
These Fair-trade copper tea-lights in their gorgeous variety of finishes, are top of my wish-list and I suspect winging their way to several friends for birthdays and thank-yous. The pieces are selected carefully to work alone or together and when you have that tricky person to buy a gift for, Decorators Notebook is a god-send. Free delivery on your first order. Thank me later, post that ruddy present.
Onto my final (but not in order of loveliness) suggestion and I defy anyone not to ATB* on this site…. the future kept is definitely worth some browsing. As their name might suggest, these curators are thinking long-term when they put together this collection of goodness. A definite focus on sustainability and provenance is the order of the day. But stop, no, its not all beige and there is no knitted yoghurt in sight. The Future Kept is an online delight; well designed, durable, meticulously chosen products for you to cherish and keep.
These metallic bags are keeping me awake at night. And did I mention they are washable? They’re eco-friendly, feel like leather and wash like fabric…*bows*
In their own words ” We design and carefully source items from independent designers, makers, artisans and entrepreneurs who are creating products that are better for our world, becoming part of your life story, forming an intimacy between you and your belongings….quality goods with an honest provenance that we use in our day-to-day lives, items made to last that will not fuel the throwaway nature of the modern world, heirlooms of the future” huzzah and gawd bless ya Future Kept !
